The suburban family home that's being transformed into a creepy haunted house for Halloween

A couple are turning their family home into a creepy haunted house to go the extra mile to entertain trick or treaters this Halloween.

Janine and Shane Marshall are in the process of transforming the garden of their Stockport home and will be filling it full of huge model gargoyles, skeletons, a replica of Billy the Puppet from the Saw film franchise and even a 7ft moving dragon.

The couple have made a special effort to entertain trick or treaters for the past few years, with Shane dressing up in a boiler suit and wielding a model chainsaw to amuse visitors in the past.

After receiving rave reviews for their elaborate decorations last year, this year the couple have decided to go all out.

They have spent around £5,000 on animatronic props and are in the process of creating a Halloween extravaganza outside their home.

They are also hoping to set up clown and skeleton themed gazebos to create a 'haunted house' style experience, and are promising a few surprises for anyone who dares to get close enough.

Janine hopes the community will come along to support their October 31st celebration, which they hope to make an annual event for charity.

This year they will be collecting donations for Macmillan, in honour of Shane's uncle Alan Marshall and Janine's grandma Helen Heathcote, who they lost to cancer.

The family have also stocked up on a mammoth stockpile of sweets to hand out to any trick or treaters who are brave enough to make it all the way to the front door.

They will also set up a different route for tiny children to bypass the front garden so they can still trick or treat without being scared.

Their huge display will be revealed in full next week, but Janine says their work so far has already whipped up excitement on their street in Brinnington.

She says it has also helped the couple get to know many of their new neighbours, who have just moved into a new build development over the road.

Janine said: "Everyone thought it was amazing last year, so this year we've said we'll go big.

"We've already got a lot of the props up but it's not even a fraction of what we've got.

"The house stands out a mile because of everything we've got up.

"My one-year-old loves it all. My three-year-old was a little bit scared at first but now she knows it's not real she's really excited and loves showing it off to her friends.

"Everyone loves it, it's been a nice way to meet a lot of the new neighbours."

The event will take place on Thursday, October 31 on Polletts Avenue in Brinnington.
