The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman - review

The Subtle Knife is about a boy who kills a stranger. As he escapes the scene he falls through a portal to a parallel world. It is in this world that he finds a knife. Not any old knife, but a dimension-ripping blade called the 'subtle knife' and with it he discovers something much more destructive, the war of worlds. A war between heaven and Cittagazze. Will he survive with the power unbearable for just him to hold...

Perfect, Pullman plays around with the king of description and steals his throne. Every sentence has a piece of suspense and joy in it.

I would strongly recommend this vivid and great read which is the second book in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.
