The stunning views of Liverpool from aboard HMS Prince of Wales

HMS Prince of Wales has welcomed thousands of visitors today, during her inaugural visit to Liverpool.

The ship looks magnificent on the River Mersey and it boasts sweeping views of Liverpool's waterfront, including the Three Graces.

The ECHO was invited on board to take a look around inside and also visit the flight deck, which showcases spectacular views.

HMS Prince of Wales is the second of the UK's giant aircraft carriers. The flight deck alone is 70m wide and 280 metres long - enough space for three football pitches.

Her ship's company make their way through 170m of sausages a day, which is roughly twice the height of the Liver Buidling.

She has a ship’s company of 700 sailors, which will increase to around 1,600 with aircraft on board.

HMS Prince of Wales is expected to remain in Liverpool until Friday.

Around 13,000 people have got the chance to go on board and see the ship in all her glory.

Though the £3bn ship will be seen by thousands more as it will be docked at Liverpool Cruise Terminal for a week.

As this is a working Naval ship, however, there may be a need for the vessel to leave early.

While this is currently not planned, all visitors should be aware that this is always a possibility.
