The stunning countryside £1.6m barn conversion with views of a fairytale castle that's also in reaching distance of Cardiff centre

If you're looking to move to the Welsh countryside you're probably going to be looking for the stunning views that inevitably come with the landscape. But what if, as well as rolling hills and green fields, you could also see the turrets of a fairy-tale castle from your property?

If this sounds right up your street - and your budget exceeds a hefty £1.6 million - the Cardiff property market could well have something to offer. The dream homes on offer within this price bracket range in design and location, from modern mansions in plush suburbs to period properties in the centre of the capital.

On the outskirts of Wales' capital city, within the green fields and forests north of Cardiff, is Castle Barn, a "hidden treasure" in a rural setting that is still just four miles from the city centre and a five-minute walk from the local village. For those who can afford it, this property seems to have it all - country-style living just a few miles out of the centre of a capital city with views of a fairy-tale castle to boot.

The aptly named Castle Barn is nestled in the Tongwynlais area on the outskirts of Cardiff, set on Castle Road. With the clues in both the property and street name, the converted barn offers views over the surrounding countryside, with the turrets of Castle Coch peaking through the trees.

Sitting beside protected woodland, the house is set on approximately five acres of land - the property itself sitting on one acre - with the option to build two stables and "plenty of hacking trails" according to the estate agent. As well as benefitting from the greenery of the surrounding countryside, the landscaped gardens have been designed by professional horticulturalists, where the current owners say they have enjoyed entertaining guests.

Set in a secluded spot, the house is accessed via an electronic gateway, which leads to parking space for three to four vehicles, with an additional garage. You can also access the adjoining land via a gated access to the side of the property that leads out to the rear, offering more space for parking and the entrance to the paddocks belonging to the property.

With five bedrooms, there's plenty of space for all members of the family as well as guests to stay over. It also boasts a large attic space that could be converted into a sixth bedroom. The converted barn's double-oak doors open onto an entrance hall that instantly gives off a farmhouse feel, with polished wooden floors, exposed stonework, and beamed ceilings.

The property's sitting room maintains the countryside feel, with the wood floors and stonework continuing from the hallway. The room also boasts a rustic log burner and French doors that lead onto a terrace surrounded by countryside views. From this room, you can also access a study that offers the same details as the sitting room and makes the perfect spot for home working.

An impressive main living room is also accessed from the hallway and features an Inglenook fireplace and a flagstone hearth to keep cosy during the winter months. The room's French doors lead out onto a Mediterranean style courtyard through to the pretty landscaped gardens, offering ample space for entertaining.

The property's farmhouse-style kitchen, with beamed ceilings, has a stable door entrance from the courtyard and is fitted with granite worktops, integrated wine displays, larder-style units and display cabinets. The kitchen's boldest feature, however, is the bright red four oven gas AGA with hand painted tiled splash which backs above a mural of Castle Coch.

Two of the property's five bedrooms are on the ground floor, each with en-suite shower rooms. A wooden spindled staircase leads up to the master bedroom, with wooden French doors leading out onto a Juliet balcony with views over the courtyard, woodland, and countryside.

In addition to walk-in wardrobes, the master suite has an en-suite bathroom with a roll top claw foot bath as well as a separate shower, pedestal style sink with antique style taps, heated towel rail, toilet, stone flooring and frosted window.

A two double bedroom annexe sits separate from the main property, with its own entrance and back door leading to the gardens. It also has a modern kitchen, open plan sitting area and shower room, with the current owners having rented the space as a holiday let.

Despite its secluded countryside location, the property remains incredibly well-connected to local transport. It has motorway links to the M4 and the A470, as is on the 132 bus route into Cardiff city centre. By train, Cardiff Central is approximately an 11-minute ride away, with the closest station being Taff's Well, 0.8 miles from the property.

The house is on the market for offers in excess of £1.6m with Fine & Country Cardiff. You can call them on 01834 862138 or on 07884435320 to find out more or email cardiff@fineandcountry.com.
