Tucked away on the very edge of the Peak District is the pretty village of Tintwistle.
Just over the border from Hollingworth in Tameside, Tintwhistle is a 45-minute drive from Manchester city centre. The scenic Derbyshire village is lucky enough to share its border with a designated conservation area, encompassing the beautiful landscape along the Longendale valley. Tintwistle is surrounded by beautiful open countryside, overlooking a string of reservoirs and the hills of Coombes Edge and Whiteley Nab.

Some of the buildings in the old part of Tintwistle are said to date back to the 16th century, including the Bull's Head pub, which offers great pub food and traditional ales. The historic Christ Church in the village is grade II listed and the newer part is made up of buildings from the Victorian era onwards.
The village itself dates back to the 11th century, and was mentioned as a settlement in the Domesday Book of 1086. Despite its remote nature, the village was well populated and had an established farming community. Historically Tintwistle was part of Cheshire, and remained so until 1974, when it became part of the High Peak district of Derbyshire.
Today, the village has a thriving community, with football team Tintwistle Athletic FC, a cricket club and two brass bands, Tintwistle Brass Band and Arnfield Brass. Head down in June and experience the annual village well dressing ceremony, a Derbyshire tradition where the local holy well is decorated with hand-crafted decorations.
