The STUC's Roz Foyer joins The National as a regular columnist

THE National is pleased to announce another top name has joined our regular columnist team.

Roz Foyer, the general secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress, is starting as a monthly writer with her first column appearing on Saturday.

It comes as she prepares to host The National and SNP Trade Union Group’s hustings in Glasgow on Saturday evening.

Foyer will be grilling SNP leadership hopefuls Ash Regan, Humza Yousaf and Kate Forbes on issues affecting working people across Scotland. The debate will be streamed on our website, Facebook and YouTube from 5pm.

Upon the announcement, Foyer said: “It’s incredibly important that trade union voices are heard across the media.

“To that end and more, I’m delighted to take up my role as a columnist within The National, giving a platform to our movement and speaking directly to members across all sides of the constitutional debate.

“As the tectonic plates of Scottish politics start to shift, there is no better time for the STUC to hammer home how we will hold both the Scottish and UK Governments to account. We demand a radical, pro-worker solution to the crises engulfing working people across Scotland. Nothing less.  You’ll hear that directly from me here.”

Laura Webster, editor of The National, welcomed the new team member.

“Roz is such a powerful figure in Scottish politics and society. We are delighted to have her join the team.

“Trade unions are making waves across Scotland as working people fight for better conditions, and their voices should be platformed at this crucial time. They'll also play a massive role in debate around Scotland’s constitutional future.

“We can’t wait to read Roz’s columns every month.”
