The Streets announce farewell concerts

Mike Skinner will play his final concerts as the Streets next month. Two farewell gigs will take place at the Big Reunion festival in Skegness, marking Skinner's last ever performances under the name that made him famous.

The Streets will play both weekends of the Butlins-hosted festival, headlining the main stage on 19 and 26 November. Other performers include Chipmunk, Example and Ms Dynamite. While the Streets have been booked for months, NME confirms these will be their last ever performances. The Streets will play their final London show at the Freeze festival on 29 October.

Beginning with the single Has It Come to This in 2001, the Streets released five top 10 albums and inspired a generation of imitators. Despite this success, Skinner announced last year he would quit at the end of his five-album deal with Warner Music. "I don't want to do the Streets any more," he said. "I've run out of new avenues." With the exception of his scheduled dates, Skinner's retirement "officially" began in February. Since then, his blog has read: CLOSED.

It remains to be seen whether the end of the Streets will be like the end of LCD Soundsystem. Skinner is still making music – just not under his best-known moniker. He recently did a remix for Benjamin Francis Leftwich under his own name. Skinner has not confirmed any future albums.
