The street where the neighbours have REALLY got behind Liverpool in the Champions League final

A group of neighbours have decked their street out in Liverpool FC colours ahead of the Reds' Champions League final against Tottenham.

Reds' fans from across the city have been calling into Penmann Crescent in Halewood to look at the rows of houses covered in Liverpool FC flags and posters ahead of the big game.

Resident Debbie O'Shaughnessy told the ECHO that the community spirit in Penman Crescent was a throwback to a more innocent time. She said: "We do things together in this street and all look out for our neighbours. So its still a bit like the 1970s here.

We just can't wait for the final, and I am confident that the Reds will not let us down.

"Fans from across the city have been calling around for a look."

Debbie told the ECHO that they are having a street party on the day of the final. She said: "In a way we are doing it for the kids. We want it to be a really special day, and hope to be able to show the game on an outdoor screen."

Debbie said that all the neighbours agreed to take part, but with a few exceptions.

She said: "We have a few Everton fans and they chose not to take part, which I suppose is understandable. I think they are talking about putting up some Tottenham flags ahead of the final. But we are all friends here and its just a bit of banter.

And some people like to point out that we are in Knowsley rather than Liverpool. That might be the case but we are all proper Scousers here."

Liverpool FC play Tottenham FC in the Champions League final on June 1. Kick off is at 8pm.
