The strange complaint Jose Mourinho had when he returned to Manchester United as Tottenham boss

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Jose Mourinho was left less than impressed with the state of the away dressing room at Old Trafford when he returned.

Mourinho was sacked by United in December 2018, but after becoming Tottenham manager the following November, he returned to his old club the next month.

A Marcus Rashford brace earned United a 2-1 win on the night, condemning Mourinho to his first defeat in charge of Spurs.

And while Solskjaer says he made sure he welcomed his predecessor as United boss with open arms, that didn’t stop him from moaning about the state of the dressing room he had designed during his time at Old Trafford.

Tottenham behind the scenes

"We had a chat before the game," Solskjaer told the United We Stand fanzine."I’d not really met him before, only briefly when he was at Chelsea and they played Cardiff. We had a nice chat.

"He was complaining about the away dressing room, the one that he’d changed!

"There was a positive atmosphere between us – it was good to have him back."

Before the Norwegian added on his current United squad: "Personality is so important. We’re a team in a team environment. You want players to have a bit of ego and edge but they have to be able to adapt.

“In March 2019, players were physically tired, mentally tired and we had injuries. The players started with negative thinking, whereas now it’s positive thinking.

“There were other things I didn’t like last year - some personal agendas which couldn’t be sorted out until the summer."

“There will always be players who want to play more in football, but if a team is to be successful then players have to be available at different times.

“I feel in this group we don’t have one bad apple.”
