The strange case of the sign at the Clyde directing cyclists 400 miles away

Glasgow is blessed with an abundance of good cycling routes allowing people explore the city on two wheels and take in some of our most iconic locations while they are at it.

We've even seen one city route, the infamous Smartie Tube bridge over the Clydeside Expressway, named as the second best cycle path on the whole planet by a Colombian investigatory group.

Despite that, Glasgow Live has come across something that causes untold bemusement among city bike-riders - in the form of a bizarre sign pointing them towards a cycle path nearly 400 miles away.

The sign, located on the back of an advertising billboard on the cycle path along from the Riverside Museum, directs cyclists to the Wiltshire Cycleway down in the south west of England - a circular route which courses 160 miles through the idyllic countryside and historic towns of Wiltshire.

We've no idea how such a sign has ended up on a post by the River Clyde, but we'd assume it hasn't been put there on purpose to confuse cyclists and direct Glaswegians 375 miles away from home.

And while it does sound tempting, we wonder if it would offer up nicer views than the ones you are able to enjoy on the cycle from Glasgow Green along the riverside to the Museum of Transport!
