The story behind spectacular spaceship garden display in Mapperley

A woman's home has been turning heads ever since she cut her hedge into the shape of a cat - and now she's designed a spectacular spaceship in her garden.

Since Amy Pierpoint landscaped her feline hedge, she has been putting up decorations every holiday for neighbours and passers-by to look at - most recently putting up an impressive spaceship.

Ms Pierpoint, who lives in Digby Avenue, Mapperley, said: "This year for Halloween I wanted to do something a bit out of the box. I had thought about it beforehand and decided I wanted to do it."

Using her two fine art degrees, where she often made sculptures, she constructed the spaceship in her house before hanging it up outside.

She said it'd been a bit affected by adverse weather, but that it'd still gone down a storm with other Digby Avenue residents.

"I think people really like it," she said.

"There are a lot of kids around here and they seem to like it. It makes people smile, which is great."
