The Stockport family with three generations celebrating their birthday - on the same date

Sharing your birthday with a family member is an unlikely occurrence — but one Stockport family has three generations born on the same date.

Lisa Wood, and her grandfather Ronald Dobbin, shared June 16 as their birthdays — in 1983 and 1932 respectively — for decades.

However, that all changed in 2015 when her son Dylan was born — as he arrived just minutes after midnight on his mum’s birthday.

The odds of three people being born on the same day are roughly one in 133,000.

Now, the family have come together to celebrate the trio’s birthdays — having missed out last year due to lockdown.

“Everyone is always really shocked,” Lisa, who lives in Offerton, said.

“I had an emergency caesarean — and Dylan was born just after 12 o’clock on my birthday, he just sneaked in.

“The chance of him coming on my birthday are really, really small so we thought we could relax for one day!”

Dylan, on the other hand, had different ideas as he arrived five weeks early in the same hospital Lisa was born in.

“We had nothing ready, no clothes for him,” Lisa, 38, adds.

Since his entry into the world, Dylan, now 6, has enjoyed sharing his big day with both his mum and great grandpa.

Lisa explains: “He really likes it. He always says it is ‘our birthday’, and he says he likes to share it with [me] and my grandad.

“I thought it would take the limelight off him for a while… [but] we have always celebrated with one meal together.”

After being unable to meet up for their birthdays last year as Ronald, 89, was shielding from Covid-19, the family enjoyed a special treat in Poynton last week.

And Lisa also has advice for any parents who are in a similar situation, however unlikely that may be.

“Just sit back and let them have their day,” she says. “It’s not your day, really.”
