The Steven Gerrard snub that blows Rangers title theory to pieces - Hotline

As chinks of light that a new Premiership season could soon be underway start to appear, the Hotline remains desperate to continue the arguments of the previous campaign.

If tainted title talk and tit for tat are to your taste then this morning's offering will be right up your street.

Jimmy Strangers, Tranent , said: "Celtic have won their ninth title-in-a-row and we all know it's been done twice before. This title will always be known as COVID-19 due to the league being stopped and all remaining games cancelled and the title awarded to Celtic."

Alfie Mullin, London, "Hotline regular Gordon Ashley keeps banging on about Celtic becoming the first team to reach 54 unshared titles.

"He seems to forget that they have one unfinished, unearned title. So the number he is talking about will be 53.75 titles. If they get there that is."

And the aforementioned Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: "Let's put this nonsense to bed about Rangers not being in the league for some Celtic title wins. The fact Rangers were unable to win promotion at their first attempt officially proves they weren’t good enough to be in the top league. Therefore Celtic won against the 11 best teams in the country. End of argument."

Brian McColligan emailed: "The EPL are in another stratosphere when it comes to financing Covid tests, our league could not be finished on time and will struggle to start next season on time, so please guys get a life, it’s over."

Mick Docherty, Kirkintilloch, said: “The sports writers nominees for manager of the year does not include a certain Steven Gerrard so I rest my case.

“Hopefully this puts the nonsense of tainted, hollow and asterisk titles to bed once and for all.

“Don't you think if there was a chance Celtic being caught then Stevie would have been in the running?"

Michael MacCrimmon, Uddingston, said: “Stuart McCall boldly stated that when his Rangers side were going for ten-in-a-row, they lost two of their last four games and that's not the mark of champions. They didn't deserve the title so well done Stuart for your honesty. As the current Rangers team lost two and drew one of their last five, Celtic fans don't have to say a thing. McCall has done the talking for them.”

James Thomson emailed: “Celtic were lucky to win the European Cup in 1967 and they are still bragging about it.

"Scott Brown and Celtic live in a world of their own and are deluded if they believe they will win another European trophy.

"They need to stop running about shouting they won nine-in-a-row but the season never finished."

William Clark emailed: “Finally Brown has said something every fan in Scottish football will agree with, there’s not a chance he would have got in the Lisbon Lions team."

Brian Stavert, Dumbarton, said: " Flo Kamberi is on the lookout for another club but we don’t want him back at Easter Road. He thinks he’s a better player than he actually is. He could go to Hearts and join the wee team in the Championship along with Auntie Ann."

Paul Oliver, Edinburgh, said: "I think I can speak for the majority of Hibs fans when I say I don't want Kamberi near my club again. His comments when he went on loan to Rangers haven't been forgotten."

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “Far be it for me to tell Gerrard the player he requires, but I would suggest that Rangers need another aggressive midfielder like Steven Davis, if he’s not going to use Greg Docherty."

And finally.

John Clarke, Govan, said: “Jonny Hayes can see into the future by claiming Celtic would have won the Old Firm game in March had it been played. So how did he not see a new contract wasn’t heading his way?”
