The Steelers should sign K Matt Bryant the second they are able

Kicker Matt Bryant tweeted today that the Atlanta Falcons would be releasing him. With his 44th birthday coming in May, he wants to continue his professional football career, as he said in a tweet on Tuesday. The Pittsburgh Steelers would be wise to get Bryant under contract as soon as possible.

Bryant has spent 17 seasons in the NFL with the last 10 in Atlanta. He’s a career 86.2 percent kicker in field goal tries and his 20-of-21 tries last season. He’s topped 90 percent on his field goal tries five times in the last nine seasons.

Pittsburgh’s kicking game was a disaster in 2018 and was responsible for why the team didn’t make the playoffs. We are all rooting for Chris Boswell to get his head screwed on right, get healthy and return to form, but there’s no better insurance policy available than Bryant. Even as a mentor to Boswell, he’s worth paying.
