The stay at home message will be lifted for Renfrewshire from Friday.
The change means that people will be able to travel to see friends and family across the local authority area.
Previously, people were encouraged to remain at home as much as possible.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed yesterday that the change would come into force on Friday as proposed, as will plans to reopen garden centres and hairdressers from Monday.
She said: “The stay at home rule is being replaced by a requirement to stay local.
“This means that the current travel restrictions – which prevent non-essential travel outside your local authority area – will remain in place for another three weeks.
“I understand how frustrating those restrictions are.
“But the requirement to stay local is there, for the moment, for a good reason.
“At the moment, different parts of the country, have different levels of infection.
“So while covid levels remain high in some areas – and while a lot of people remain unvaccinated – we do not want the virus to spread from areas with relatively high prevalence, to areas with low rates of infection.
“That’s why sticking to the stay local rule for another three weeks is really important.
“All of the other immediate changes will take effect from next Monday, April 5.”
From that date, more college students will be able to return to on-campus learning and sports for children aged 12 to 17 can resume.
Garden centres and homeware shops will be able to reopen while other retailers will be able to relaunch click and collect services on an appointment only basis.
Car showrooms and forecourts will reopen from Monday too.
The gradual reopening of shops and services comes amidst a warning to stick to the Level 4 restrictions as the number of virus cases continues to plateau.
