The long-term replacement for Kieran Trippier who is already at Tottenham

Tottenham have something of a conundrum at right-back following the transfer of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid.

The England international has left the Lilywhites to join the La Liga side for an undisclosed fee, with the 28-year-old signing a three-year deal with the Wanda Metropolitano outfit.

It leaves Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters as the natural options to replace Trippier as the first choice right-back at Spurs, although the Ivory Coast international has not yet rejoined the squad this summer, after featuring at the African Cup of Nations.

But Spurs could actually have another ready-made replacement within the squad already.

That is based on the statistics from Juan Foyth's performance for Argentina against Chile in the Copa America earlier this month.

Lining up at right-back in the third-placed play-off match, Foyth impressed for Argentina as they won the match 2-1, courtesy of goals from Sergio Aguero and Paulo Dybala.

Foyth's display at the back was a key factor for Argentina, with the 21-year-old touching the ball 64 times in the match, and completing five of the seven tackles he attempted, while also making five clearances from defence.

The Tottenham defender also completed 25 of the 32 passes he attempted during the game, made four interceptions and won two of the three aerial duels he was involved in.

And it was a performance that could give Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino food for thought when it comes to his options at right-back.

During his time at Tottenham, Foyth has predominantly played as a central defender, but has on occasion featured at right-back for club and country, and this recent showing suggests that he could be a potential long-term solution for both at full-back.

Foyth, who signed for Spurs in August 2017, has a contract in north London until the summer of 2022.

The Guardian reports that Pochettino is confident the Argentine could play in that position, although Spurs have also been linked with a move to sign Fulham teenager Steven Sessegnon, who can play at right-back.
