The stats behind the four Newcastle United nominees for Fans' Footballer of the Year

Newcastle United supporters will be hoping that the win against Burnley can kickstart a strong end to 2021.

It has been a year of mixed fortunes for the Magpies who have largely been starved of hope on the pitch but have been given plenty in recent months with the club’s takeover.

A handful of players have stood out under Steve Bruce and now Eddie Howe and four of them have been nominated for the second edition of Fans’ Footballer of the Year.

Allan Saint-Maximin was the winner last year and is joined by Callum Wilson, Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock in the running for the award this time around.

You can vote for who you think should win it below whether that’s the most exciting player, the most consistent or the one you feel has contributed most over the last 12 months.

We have taken a look at the stats of each of those players during that period.

Allan Saint-Maximin

There is no surprise to see the Frenchman amongst the nominees for the second time as he has been Newcastle’s main attacking threat for the majority of the year.

Saint-Maximin is one of the players that the new owners will be hoping can be a key figure of the squad over the coming years.

Games: 33

Goals: 5

Assists: 6

Successful dribbles (2021/22 only): 58

Key passes (2021/22 only): 25

Callum Wilson

Like Saint-Maximin, Wilson is another player whose place amongst the nominees is totally justified. After spending a large part of last season injured, he has been back in the goals this term.

Where would they be without him? Bottom of the table, probably.

Games: 24

Goals: 10

Assists: 2

Total shots (2021/22 only): 26

Shots on target (2021/22 only): 10

Jacob Murphy

This is possibly the surprise inclusion for this award but Murphy’s work rate and versatility cannot be overlooked.

Whether on the wing or at wing-back, he has consistently given 110% to the team and he has even chipped in with a few important goals and assists.

Games: 29

Goals: 2

Assists: 3

Successful tackles (2021/22 only): 27

Interceptions (2021/22 only): 8

Joe Willock

While the first two on this list might be the runaway favourites for this award, Willock’s work at the back end of last season shouldn’t be forgotten.

When he joined on loan from Arsenal, his impact was fantastic as he scored in seven consecutive matches to help keep Newcastle in the Premier League.

Games: 28

Goals: 8

Assists: 0

Successful tackles (2021/22 only): 32

Interceptions: 10
