The state joyriders left a stolen car in after taking it for a drive, smashing it up and running off

This was the state of a stolen car after joyriders took it for a spin and then smashed it up before running away.

Officers found the grey vehicle abandoned on a field in Boothstown, a village in Salford on Monday evening.

Photos were posted by GMP traffic police on Twitter today (Tuesday).

All the windows in the car had been broken, the rear lights were ripped out and the driver's side door handle was missing.

Debris from the car was scattered on the floor.

The car was smashed up and covered in dirt.

PCSOs drove the car away before it was recovered.

The post said: "There’s not much left of this outstanding stolen in Boothstown.

"After joyriding it round the fields they decided to smash it up.

"Traffic PCSOs managed to drive it out of the field so it could be recovered."
