The stat which underlines Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold's importance to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool

Full-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have become a crucial component of both Liverpool's defence and attack.

Their sublime work-rate and pinpoint crosses have helped assist 16 goals for Jurgen Klopp's team in the Premier League this season.

With the Reds fighting on two fronts as they vie to end their seven-year trophy drought, it is the Scottish left-back and Scouse right-back who are leading the chase from the wings at home and in Europe.

The much-loved duo have added a spark to this incredible team, helping set up attacks and prevent the opposition from scoring.

Their goalscoring involvement has been compared to Reds full-backs from previous seasons by Natefc on Twitter.

What the table shows is this is the first time since 2004/05 Liverpool's full-backs have been able to reach double figures in assists.

Alexander-Arnold has matched John Arne Riise's 2005 tally, as the England international has put it on a plate for his team-mates seven times so far.

Astoundingly, in Liverpool's last notable title charges of 2008/09 and 2013/14, the full-backs only added five and six assists respectively.

In the campaign which followed the 2013/14 Premier League title charge, the Reds' left-backs and right-backs were unable to set up a single goal.

Robertson and Alexander-Arnold's role in this title charge therefore cannot be overlooked.

The Scottish skipper, who has assisted 11 times in all competitions, will miss Tuesday night's Champions League tie with Porto through suspension.

This will give Alexander-Arnold the opportunity to catch his team-mate up in their personal battle to be crowned king of assists.

The 20-year-old from West Derby has supplied seven goals so far and famously delivered a hat-trick of assists against Watford in February.
