The stat that will give Spurs confidence of knocking Man City out of the Champions League

Tottenham Hotspur could progress to the Champions League semi final this evening - all they need to do is progress past Manchester City at the Etihad.

Spurs hold a 1-0 first leg lead after Son Heung-Min's goal was the difference at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week and the side know that if they keep a clean sheet this evening they will progress to face Ajax in the semi finals of the competition.

But it will be no easy feat - City have lost just once at home all season long and have beaten Spurs earlier in the season at Wembley Stadium with a 1-0 victory.

They're chasing the quadruple too having already retained the Carabao Cup and reached the final of the FA Cup and with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne in their side they will be confident they can turn the tie around.

But Spurs fans can take some heart that the stats are against City this evening.

Manchester City have faced five all-English ties in Europe in the past and have lost all five of them, a run that stretches back to 1970/71.

In the European Cup Winners' Cup in that season they lost 1-0 to Chelsea home and away, knocking them out of the competition.

It took until 2018 for them to face another English side in Europe and this time it was Liverpool in the Champions League, but they lost the first leg 3-0 and the second leg at the Etihad 2-1 in that affair.

And of course, their latest defeat came against Spurs last week in a 1-0 defeat at the same stage of the competiton.

It's a stat that Spurs can take heart from as they look to reach the Champions League semi finals this evening.
