The star-studded punditry team that ITV have just named for the Rugby World Cup

Broadcasters ITV and S4C have revealed their punditry teams for the Rugby World Cup and they are stacked with big names.

ITV, the UK's host broadcaster, yesterday revealed an outstanding squadron of pundits and commentators that include Wales greats Sam Warburton, Mike Phillips, Shane Williams, Gareth Thomas and Jamie Roberts.

Former Wales skipper Warburton leads a substantial punditry team that includes Thomas, Phillips, Johnny Wilkinson, Brian O'Driscoll, Bryan Habana and Paul O'Connell, among others.

Roberts and Williams are part of the co-commentary team, taking their place alongside Ugo Monye, Scott Hastings, Danielle Waterman, Ben Kay and Alan Quinlan.

Experienced broadcasters Nick Mullins, Miles Harrison, Martin Gillingham and Simon Ward lead the commentary.

Mark Pougatch and Jill Douglas will front ITV's coverage of the tournament. Craig Doyle and Martin Bayfield will also take up some of the presenting duties.

“All eyes should be on Japan 2019 as I believe it will be the most competitive Rugby World Cup that I’ve ever seen as a fan or player," said Warburton.

"I believe the strength of the Tier 2 and 3 nations is the strongest we would have seen and I cannot wait to see how they perform.

"Japan will undoubtedly put on a fantastic show and with their many passionate supporters and all from around the world, this World Cup will be an enormous global springboard for Rugby Union into the future.”

Welsh language broadcaster S4C also have rights for the tournament and will be showing every Wales game live.

They will also broadcast a game from each of the knockout stages and the Rugby World Cup final, whether Wales feature or not.

S4C, who will be on the ground in Japan, have also revealed their team of pundits and presenters for the tournament, with former Wales scrum-half Phillips doubling up as a pundit for them as well as ITV.

Former Wales skipper and Western Mail columnist Gwyn Jones and ex-Wales fly-half Nicky Robinson will analyse the action. They'll be joined by a 'selection' of special guests including Phillips.

Gareth Rhys Owen will present the coverage, with Catrin Heledd reporting.

Experienced commentator Wyn Gruffudd will be in the box alongside former Wales lock Deiniol Jones.
