The staggering amounts of money Boris Johnson has been making since he resigned as PM

Boris Johnson has declared staggering sums of money he has been paid for after-dinner speaking engagements since being ousted as Prime Minister. Mr Johnson has made over £750,000 for speaking at thre events in just two weeks.

Mr Johnson was forced to step down as Prime Minister in the summer after a series of high profile scandals and plummeting opinion polls. Since then Mr Johnson, who remains a serving MP for Uxbridge drawing his MP salary, has been picking up lucrative work alongside his day job as a member of Parliament.

According to Mr Johnson's declarations of interest, he received three payments for speaking evenings that took place between November 9 and 23. He has also declared free stays in luxury accommodation at Heathrow airport November.

What events did Mr Johnson speak at?

According to his declarations of interest he received the following:

  • On November 9 he took part in a speaking engagement for which he received £277,723.89 from independent investment banking and advisory firm Centerview Partners in New York. They also provided transport and accommodation provided for him and two members of staff. In his declaration Mr Johnson said this amounted to nine hours work.
  • On November 17 he took part in another speaking engagement and "VIP reception" where he was paid £261,652.34 by the Hindustan Times. On top of this he received "transport, food and accommodation provided for himself and two members of staff. He deemed the amount of work to be "eight hours".
  • On November 23 he had a speaking engagement at the CNN Global Summit in Lisbon. For this is he received £215,275.98 from Portuguese TV channel Televisao Independente, They also provided transport, food and accommodation provided for Mr Johnson and two members of staff. This constituted eight hours of work.

The former PM, who was fined for breaking lockdown rules, was also given a donation from Lord Anthony and Lady Carole Bamford who Mr Johnson said provided "accommodation for me and my family in November 2022 and December 2022" with an estimated value £3,500

It seems Mr Johnson travelled in some style receiving over £7,000 equivalent in hospitality from Heathrow Airport Ltd for use of various suites. Mr Johnson had previously said he would "lie down" in front of bulldozers at the airport to stop a third runway.
