The spine-tingling moment that proves Frank Lampard has Chelsea backing despite Man United loss

For Chelsea supporters, watching their team getting a 4-0 drubbing by Manchester United is not going to be a happy day.

The journey back down to London would be that little bit longer and a little bit miserable for many.

There were positives from the defeat at Old Trafford, however on paper a 4-0 defeat is a bitter pill to swallow.

Over the past couple of campaigns, the Blues have been no strangers to a heavy defeat, with a 4-0 loss to Bournemouth and 6-0 hammering by Manchester City last season.

Of course, Blues supporters would have hoped those days were over and especially not to see it so early in the campaign.

But while Maurizio Sarri was vilified for the performances, there was a completely different atmosphere as the goals went in yesterday.

One of the big things that Sarri was criticised for was his lack of approach to the Chelsea fans. Never did the Italian head over to the travelling Blues fans, if they won or lost.

However, Lampard, being a club legend, has a different attitude towards the Blues supporters and went straight over to the away fans at Old Trafford.

The next thing that happened was spine-tingling in how the Chelsea fans reacted to their manager, as you can see from the exclusive football.london footage above, chanting his name, even with the defeat.

“I saw lots of positive things today and will have our moments,” Lampard said. “What the fans want to see and why they were receptive at the end is because they want to see a team that were trying to do the right thing.”

It’s the first sign that Blues supporters are willing to give their new head coach, and record goalscorer, time to adapt to being a Premier League manager.

However, things will have to improve dramatically if that is to continue to be the case.
