The Spice Girls respond after Billie Eilish pays tribute to Mel C with Sporty Spice t-shirt

The Spice Girls have shared their “love” for Billie Eilish after the singer paid tribute to Sporty Spice.

The girl group re-posted a photo of the 17-year-old singer wearing a Mel C merchandised top on their official Instagram account yesterday, referring to Eilish's single You Should See Me In A Crown in the caption.

Alongside a wink face emoji, the official account wrote: “You should see me in a… Spice Girls Tee. Love you @billieeilish."

Eilish had originally posted the snap of her wearing white sunglasses and the T-shirt in homage to the group on her own Instagram page, and responded to the band's post with: "Omfg."

A post shared by Spice Girls (@spicegirls) on The Bad Girl – who was born in 2001, a year after the group first disbanded - thought they were fictional characters written for the Spice World film.

The Bad Girl singer – who was born in 2001, a year after the group first disbanded - previously admitted that she had initially believed the singers were fictional characters written for the Spice World film.

Melanie Chisholm - who appeared in the Spice Girls along with Melanie Brown, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner – has previously shown appreciation for Eilish, saying that she has told the teenager just how "important" it is to get plenty of rest and not allow herself to become burnt out by the music industry.

In an interview with Vice.com, the Viva Forever hitmaker said: "I just told her to make sure she got some chill time because it's very important.

"You are not a robot."

She added: "In your twenties, you feel like you're grown-ups, but looking back you're very vulnerable and there's a lot of self-doubt.

"There's a lot of growing and learning as I didn't know what I wanted to be, and all of a sudden these pressures are being put on you."

The Spice Girls recently reunited - without Beckham - for the Spice Girls UK tour this summer.
