The special message Chelsea star David Luiz sent to non-league side Corinthian-Casuals

Corinthian-Casuals have gained a high profile supporter in the shape of David Luiz.

The Chelsea star threw his support behind the non-league side ahead of a trip to Budapest to take part in a tournament in honour of Hungarian legend Egri Erbstein.

Erbstein was widely renowned as one of the Godfathers of modern football, after establishing himself as a manager in Italy both before and after World War Two.

Despite playing in the Isthmian League, Corinthian-Casuals are a club of global status.

The London side were created as a combination of two local sides, Corinthians and Casuals, who ran until 1939 when World War Two began - forcing football to be suspended.

Corinthians were the inspiration behind the Brazilian giants of the same name, who have credited their name to the first generation non-league side - a relationship that was cemented in the 1988/89 season when the London side travelled to Brazil for a tour.

This saw the English and Brazilian Corinthians go head to head with Socrates playing 45 minutes for both sides.

The impact of Corinthian-Casuals on football in south America is huge, something which was acknowledged by Luiz who shared a special message with the non-league side.

He said: "Hello Corinthian-Casuals. I just wanted to say good luck for the Corinthia Cup in Budapest.

"I hope you guys win and continue to make history in football because you guys did a lot for football in my country and everywhere.

"I just want to wish good luck and god bless you guys. Let's go and win this tournament."
