The von Trapp family make their way to Australia in the acclaimed London Palladium production of The Sound of Music. The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical premiered in the West End in 2006, and has played a record-breaking 954 performances. The Australian production stars Amy Lehpamer as governess Maria Rainer, alongside Cameron Daddo as Captain Georg von Trapp and Marina Prior as Baroness Schraeder.
The musical was inspired by the real life story of the von Trapp family and their governess Maria, who re-introduced them to music and helped them escape from Nazi Germany. It debuted on Broadway in 1959 to record-breaking ticket sales, won five Tony awards and became the longest–running American musical of its generation, while the 1965 film became the highest–grossing film in history.
