The Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark has been delayed again.

The film, which is a precursor to HBO’s award-winning crime drama series, was first scheduled to be released in September 2020 but was delayed until 12 March 2021.

Now, as reported by Variety, the film will make its debut on 24 September 2021.

Set in New Jersey in the 1960s and 1970s, The Many Saints of Newark will depict the growing tensions between the Italian-American and African-American communities living in the city of Newark.

The film contains a star-studded cast including Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, John Magaro, Michela De Rossi, Ray Liotta and Vera Farmiga.

Michael Gandolfini, the son of late actor James, will play the role made famous by his father and star as a young Tony Soprano.

The Sopranos’ creator David Chase is spearheading the movie, having written the script with Sopranos staff writer Lawrence Konner.

The Many Saints of Newark will join Warner Bros’ other 2021 films and be made available to stream on HBO Max in the US concurrently with its cinema release.
