The Snuts frontman Jack Cochrane played a special set in Hamilton Mausoleum

A Scottish rock singer played a special set inside Hamilton Mausoleum on Friday.

The Snuts frontman Jack Cochrane said he was “drenched” as he played some of his hits in the historic landmark.

And you will be able to hear the natural reverb ringing out the 19th century structure through Jack’s acoustic set when it is aired online on Friday, April 2.

It will feature on the BBC’s music show Tune, tying in with the band’s new album launch.

Jack loved playing in Hamilton, and even included a cover of Bob Dylan’s Blowin’ in the Wind, appropriate for playing in the damp conditions last Friday, March 26, when the show was recorded.

Jack said: “I was drenched to the bone in the coldest, wettest setting possible but it was great to perform these new songs in an amazing setting.”

Hamilton Mausoleum was created by Alexander, the 10th Duke of Hamilton and took 15 years to complete.

The iconic dome was built as a tomb and monument to him around 1842.

The duke decided that he wanted to have a proper resting place for himself and his family but died in 1852, before the building was complete.

The mausoleum stands at 128ft high. It once held the record for the longest echo within any man-made structure in the world, taking 15 seconds for the sound of a slammed door to fade. The main room was originally intended for a chapel but the 15-second echo prevented these plans from going ahead.

Now it is respected as a national and local landmark – with The Snuts the latest act to experience its aura.

The BBC iPlayer broadcast will be available this Friday and includes the three-track setlist. The Snuts’ new album W.L is released on Friday, April 2.

The episode can be found on BBC iPlayer show Tune.
