The Snowman is coming to Manchester Opera House and it looks magical

The Snowman is flying in to Manchester Opera House this Christmas and it looks every bit as magical as you'd imagine.

The much-loved festive story is being brought to life on the big stage and accompanied by a live orchestra.

Billed as a 'wonderful mix of storytelling, spectacle and magic', it tells the story of a young boy’s adventures when his snowman comes miraculously to life on Christmas Eve.

Based on the book by Raymond Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson and produced by John Coates, this stage show has now transported generations of children and their families into the wintry world of the boy and his magical snowman.

The Birmingham Repertory Theatre production features music and lyrics by Howard Blake - performed by a live orchestra - and includes a recording of the iconic song Walking in the Air in a new arrangement by Howard Blake and sung by Aled Jones duetting with his younger (recorded) self.

The 'enchanting' show comes to Manchester from November 7 to 10 with a mixture of daytime and evening performances.

It will feature an array of colourful characters including dancing penguins, magical reindeer, a beautiful snow princess, her wicked beau Jack Frost, and of course, Father Christmas himself.

A spokesman said: "The Snowman is a Christmas treat for all the family and a perfect introduction to theatre and dance for the very young."

Tickets, costing from £13, can be booked online or at the box office on 0844 871 3018.
