The small list of countries Brits could be allowed to go on holiday to in June

A 'traffic light' style system allowing for international travel to 'green' countries with high Covid-19 vaccination rates is being considered by the Government, it has been reported.

Boris Johnson will unveil plans for foreign holidays to return in an announcement on Monday, after he receives a report from global travel taskforce chief Grant Shapps in the coming days, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Under the reported plans, travel to 'red' countries will continue be banned. Tourists will only be allowed to go to 'amber' destinations if they quarantine, while 'green' countries will be the nations which are deemed safe for holiday travel,

Around a dozen countries are in the running to make the green list, the Telegraph claims, with Malta, Gibraltar, Portugal, Israel, Canada, Barbados, the UAE and the US all likely to be included.

Spain, Greece and Turkey are expected to be on the amber list, while France and Italy are likely to remain off limits.

A government source reportedly said: "It is still too early to say where and when people will be able to go on holidays but there will be detail about what that will look like."

The Government's roadmap allows for international travel to resume from May 17 at the earliest.
