The Sky Sports stats Newcastle fans point to as proof Steve Bruce should be sacked

Steve Bruce's future in the Newcastle United hotseat was the subject of debate on Sky Sports' Super Sunday panel.

The Magpies head coach insists he will not walk away from St James' Park despite a ChronicleLive survey revealing 95% of fans believe he should be sacked.

United's horrendous run of just two wins in their last 19 league matches has seen Bruce's side plummet into a relegation dogfight with Fulham.

The Newcastle boss believes a point per game until the end of the season will be enough to keep the club in the Premier League for a fifth consecutive season.

Speaking ahead of the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, former United manager Graeme Souness believes the empty stands is the only reason why Bruce remains in the job.

The Liverpool legend said: "I hate talking about managers losing their jobs. I know Steve Bruce, good guy, but I think he's lucky to hold on to his job. It's as if Mike Ashley is sticking two fingers up at the supporters.

"If 95% say they want a change, most boards would make that change. If there were people in the stadium, I think that change would have been made."

The panel's discussion was accompanied by a stats graphic outlining United's dismal metrics this season under Bruce.

Newcastle were in the bottom three in attacking areas such as possession won in the final third and touches in the opposition box, and defensive measures such as shots faced per game.

Statistics such as these have become grimly familiar for Magpies supporters, and disgruntled fans took the opportunity to share the image as further proof for why they want Bruce to be dismissed.

This is how United fans reacted to the discussion and the stats on social media:

'Out of his depth'

'Nice bloke'

'Bruce out'

'Going to the Championship'

'Ouch!'

'Fans fault'
