The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson - review

The Sky is Everywhere is about Lennie Walker, who loves Wuthering Heights, plays the clarinet, and recently lost her sister Bailey. She expresses her feelings through poems, which she leaves throughout the town for no one to read. Lennie finds it hard to share her feelings with anyone, and she cant let go of Bailey.

She then finds comfort in Toby, Bailey’s boyfriend, as they feel that only the other understands them. Like all other girls in the town, the three Fontaine boys blow Lennie away, especially Joe, the youngest. First meeting him at band, she finds he is a musical genius as well as being part French. This book mainly shows how Lennie deals with such a horrific loss, and her first love.

I really enjoyed the writing of this book. It flowed beautifully, and all made sense. I also loved all the characters. I felt I really got to know, and fall in love, with all of them. I also loved all the poetry at the start of each chapter, which showed Bailey’s and Lennie’s relationship, and how Lennie was dealing with her loss.

The only criticism I have that is was such a beautiful plot, but I felt that it had been cut down a lot and there could have been so much more building up Lennie’s relationship with Joe more, and possibly more stories about Bailey. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance books, but no one under 14 as some subjects mentioned are definitely for older teens.
