The six promises made by Government ahead of Taoiseach Micheal Martin's lockdown announcement

Government Ministers met today to draw up a draft plan for what Ireland will look like in the summer months.

The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) will deliberate on Wednesday and Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan will write to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly with their recommendations on what restrictions can be eased.

They will also provide a detailed update on the epidemiology of Covid-19.

While speaking to the Oireachtas Health Committee earlier today, the Taoiseach Micheál Martin promised that six things would be addressed in his statement to the nation on Thursday evening.

Construction

Construction has slowly resumed through April on a phased basis and despite one outbreak in the month, it appears that plans are continuing for the full reopening of the sector in May.

Cultural

Mr Martin has been adamant that "outdoor will be the theme of the summer."

This seems to hint that museums, libraries and galleries will be reopened in May - though there could be some wiggle-room for more amenities.

Retail

Thousands of people have been praying for a Penneys return before summer fully kicks in and it seems they might get their wish.

The return of retail will be 'phased' with the initial re-opening being for 'click and collect' purposes only.

However, there is no longer a distinction for 'essential' and 'non-essential' as all shops are set to be given a plan to return once more.

Personal services

Hairdressers and beauticians are the main two areas to fall under this category, which will see people able to get haircuts legally for the first time since before Christmas.

Places of worship

The Government faced heavy criticism from multiple religious leaders and TDs for not allowing places of worship to hold prayer services during the likes of Easter and Ramadan.

But from the middle of May, it is expected they will be given the green light to return.

Clarity

The Taoiseach said: "We'll make a comprehensive statement on Thursday, a very comprehensive statement, we'll give plenty clarity.

"We gave dates and timelines for the month of April, we've honoured those, so far so good, the Irish people have responded magnificently to the guidelines, all we open we want to keep open this time.

"That's the real prize for the hospitality sector this time, when we open a sector or part of a sector we want it to be for the long haul.
