The six Celtic and Rangers players walking a Europa League suspension tightrope

Ahead of Thursday night's big Europa League ties, there are a host of players that will be desperate to avoid a needless booking.

That's because three players each from Rangers and Celtic will miss their second leg against Braga or Copenhagen if they receive another yellow card.

Ryan Christie, Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien will miss the second leg for Celtic against Copenhagen if booked on Thursday.

And for Rangers, Borna Barišić, Glen Kamara and Alfredo Morelos are also on thin ice against Braga.

Midfielder Ryan Jack is already suspended for the first leg after his late red card in the final match of the group stage against Young Boys.

Two Copenhagen players and four Braga stars are also running the risk of a one-match ban.

Under UEFA rules players are suspended after accumulating three yellow cards.

Thereafter, players are suspended for every odd-numbered booking.

There will be further intrigue if some players are suspended for the last 16 if both sides make it through with the slight possibility of the teams being drawn together.

The players will already be on their best behaviour with the introduction of VAR to the Europa League knockout stage.

Both clubs will be under the watch of the video referee in a first for a Scottish club.
