The six attributes that make Kai Havertz the perfect signing for Chelsea

Marcel Daum - the assistant coach at Bayer Leverkusen - has detailed the six attributes that would make Kai Havertz the ideal signing for any club, and has compared him to France legend Zinedine Zidane.

The attacking-midfielder, who will celebrate his 21st birthday next week, has fast become one of the most highly sought-after players in European football after a string of fine performances in the Bundesliga this season.

Since the German top-flight got back under way last month, Havertz has continued to show exactly why so many big-name European clubs are chasing his signature, scoring five goals in just four matches since the restart.

Chelsea Q&A with Oliver Harbord

His performances, which have helped Leverkusen win three of their last four games, have put Chelsea on red-alert, with Blues boss Frank Lampard understood to be a big admirer of the highly-rated Germany international.

Now, Leverkusen assistant boss Daum has spoken about Havertz's current form and compared him to former Real Madrid sensation Zidane, who, certainly for many, will be considered as one of the greatest players football has ever seen.

"Everyone is asking about Kai Havertz. If you see him play it tells you everything’ Daum told talkSPORT. "For me, he has the elegance of Zidane.

"If you see his movement, he’s very elegant, he’s always calm, he has great passing ability.

"What a lot of people don’t see, because we watch him every day, is that he’s pretty fast. That’s a big bonus.

"He’s a great player; he’s scoring goals, he’s great in the air and he’s pretty fast.

"It’s up to him how far he can go.

"I can’t say he will be the best German player ever, but he has the talent and there are no limits. He’s displaying signs of Zidane."

With Havertz now being compared to somebody as such stature as Zidane, his price is only likely to rocket further, meaning Chelsea will have to plot their transfer plans carefully, as they, of course, still remain keen on securing Jadon Sancho's signature.

But Daum has hinted that Leverkusen would be willing to let Havertz go if the price was right, though he admits that it won't be a "cheap fee."

"The situation with coronavirus is so strange and so complicated that it’s still open that he will leave us," he added.

"I don’t know what will happen, but at Bayer he has the right place to develop his strengths and improve.

"The only thing I know is that Bayer won’t sell him for a cheap fee."

In total, Havertz has scored 15 goals in all competitions for Leverkusen this season, as well as registering eight assists in 38 appearances.
