The Simpsons on Disney+ loses iconic jokes - but Disney promises fix

After months of waiting Disney+ finally launched in the UK this week with more than 30 seasons of The Simpsons available.

While being able to watch 600 episodes of Springfield’s finest sounded great - particularly during the coronavirus lockdown - the dream has rapidly become a nightmare for some fans.

Older episodes on Disney+ have been stretched out to fit newer screens, a move which has cropped out some of the visual gags that helped make the show so popular.

Fans of the show have been venting their frustrations on Twitter, asking Disney to restore the original dimensions so they can fully enjoy the older episodes.

A standout example is the pipes that fill Duff, Duff Lite and Duff Dry at the Duff Beer factory all coming from the same place.

The new ratio cuts off part of the barrels, spoiling their enjoyment of the joke and depriving new fans of iconic moments.

A Disney spokesperson has promised a fix will be coming.

"We appreciate our fans and remain committed to making the first 19 seasons (and some episodes from season 20) of The Simpsons available for fans in the original 4:3 aspect ratio on Disney+ and expect the viewing option to roll out in the coming months," they said.

Fans in the US suffered similar frustrations last year when Disney+ was launched in America.
