The simple 1p 'trick' that keeps your bed warm all night without turning on heating

With many of us beginning to feel the effects of the cold weather and the cost of living crunch, people have been hunting for ways to keep warm without racking up the heating bill.

Luckily, experts have revealed a few affordable methods that can help you keep warm for less during the night, with one trick said to cost just 1p a night.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Silentnight experts have reckoned that it costs just 1p a night to run an electric blanket instead of popping on the heating.

If used for one hour a night during seven days of the week, then it would actually only cost you around £12 a year.

However, you can actually bring this price down even lower by simply popping on a mattress topper, reports BirminghamLive.

Sally Bonser from Silentnight said: "It’s no surprise that so many of us are looking for alternative ways to heat our homes. However, it’s concerning to see some of the methods people are turning to as they could actually cost them more in the long run.

"Turning on the fire or using electric appliances like kettles for making plenty of hot drinks, or hair dryers to heat the bed can be costly in the long run, whereas using an electric blanket costs just 1p to heat your entire bed. A lot of people also mistakenly think electric blankets can be unsafe, but Silentnight’s electric blankets are approved by BEAB and have a sleep safe guarantee.

She continued: “The bedroom is often one of the hardest rooms in the house to heat, as they are likely to have external walls and aren’t used much throughout the day. It’s important people know the different ways to keep warm at night without the temptation to turn up that heating.”

The advice comes just after electric blankets saw a huge surge in popularity this year, as many households looked for energy-eficient methods of keeping warm this winter as energy bills soared.

Similar plug-in heated throw's have also been snapped up by shoppers who are looking to cut back on theiur heating costs while they are spending some time on the sofa.
