The significant Timo Werner lesson Chelsea fans learnt from Romelu Lukaku fallout

Romelu Lukaku started in his first game after that Sky Italia interview where he criticised Thomas Tuchel and complained about his 'situation' of not playing too often.

The Belgian international started against Tottenham in Chelsea's 2-0 win in the league cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge. The fallout has still been one of Chelsea fans' most significant talking points.

After the game, Tuchel said that both parties had moved and that he was pleased with the striker's performance, "Good, absolutely happy.

"I was absolutely sure he was not affected by it. He seemed to be relaxed and fine with the situation. Romelu can handle pressure and adversity."

But, if there is anything we've learnt from this debacle, it's that Timo Werner, we were wrong about you. Okay, he's not scored many goals for us, and it can be frustrating watching him sometimes.

But fans were wrong.

Werner has had a lot of stick from Chelsea fans in the past. But, never once has he had a tantrum or moped about that. Or when he was criticised by pundits alike.

We've seen how one player's actions and words can create unnecessary attention and drama that Chelsea simply don't need.

Instead, on several occasions, Werner has been self-critical and put the onus on himself for not producing goals or performances for Chelsea. Player power is a notion known all too well in modern football.

But, the stark difference between how Werner and Lukaku have composed themselves is clear. Werner was mocked in an open training session at the beginning of the season and was told to leave the club.

Despite all of this, he’s dug deep, kept quiet and continued trying to do the best for the team. Werner, you deserved better from the fans.
