The showbiz connections behind Channel 5's 'The Drowning' include Coronation Street and Bridgerton stars

A new thriller is set to capture viewers attention over the coming days and the writer behind it has some well known connections.

The Drowning is Channel 5's latest offering which beings on Monday (February 1).

It will air over four consecutive nights and tells the story of a grief-stricken mother consumed by the hope her missing son could still be alive.

Jill Halfpenny, who is known for a plethora of TV roles, leads the cast as bereaved mother Jodie.

But there is more showbiz connections then just the cast.

The Drowning has been written by Emmerdale writer Tim Dynevor alongside Francesca Brill and Luke Watson.

But you may be wondering why you recognise Tim's name and that must only be down to Coronation Street and Bridgerton.

Tim, who was nominated for a BAFTA for his work on Emmerdale is married to Corrie actress Sally and is the dad of Phoebe, who plays Daphne Bridgerton in Netflix' runaway hit.

The scriptwriter and the Sally Metcalfe actress tied the knot in Trafford in 1995 and share three children - Phoebe, 25, Samuel, 24, and Harriet, 18.
