The short but strong statement from Middle East consortium member after Newcastle United takeover blow

Would-be Newcastle United consortium director Mehrad Ghodussi has released a short but strong statement on the takeover mess unfolding in the capital tonight.

The husband of Amanda Staveley, who along with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and the Reuben brothers have been left deeply disappointed by the result of a new hearing today, says the blame for delays lies firmly at the doors of the top-flight.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley had already agreed a £340million sale to the consortium but has learned today that the arbitration case has been delayed until early 2022.

In a social media post Mr Ghodussi said: "There’s only one party playing games here #premierleague"

United chiefs were unable to elaborate on the short statement released this evening and the Premier League have maintained their tight-lipped status once more.

Ashley along with his advisors was in London today.

A club statement read: "The parties attended a hearing today in the case between Newcastle United and the Premier League.

"The main hearing of the arbitration has regrettably now been adjourned until early 2022 due to issues with the disclosure of evidence.

"The parties will be making no further comment at this time."
