The shocking statistic that places Tottenham alongside Man City, Liverpool and Aston Villa

Tottenham’s glistening new stadium is actually located in one of English football’s most deprived areas.

Government deprivation figures released today have revealed that the new Tottenham Stadium is located in England’s 1,966th most deprived neighbourhood out of a total of 32,844.

In football terms, however, only 14 clubs in the top four divisions of English football are located in more deprived areas.

Blackpool are located in English football’s most deprived neighbourhood, which is ranked 12th in the country overall.

Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium comes next and is in England’s 244th most deprived area.

Manchester City, world football’s fifth richest club according to the Deloitte Football Money League, come next.

The Etihad Stadium is in England’s 262nd most deprived area.

It shows how the wealth of football clubs is often in stark contrast to that of the areas and communities they represent.

Bradford City are in the next most deprived neighbourhood after Manchester City (384th nationally) followed by Everton (425th), Hull City (436th) and Burnley (500th).

Rotherham (686th nationally), Morecambe (783rd), Aston Villa (827th), Birmingham (894th), Liverpool (1,029th), Southampton (1,890th) and Fleetwood (1,916th) are the other clubs ahead of Spurs.

AFC Bournemouth sit at the other end of the scale.

The Cherries are in one of the country’s least deprived neighbourhoods and the least deprived of any Premier or Football League side.

The Bournemouth 011B neighbourhood is ranked 31,921st out of 32,844.

Shrewsbury come next (28,849th out of 32,844) followed by Wycombe (27,750th), Bristol Rovers (26,251st) and Forest Green (25,051st).
