The shocking state of five-year-old girl's barren and 'carpetless' bedroom as Leeds mum felt like 'a failure'

A little girl from Leeds has been left smiling from “ear to ear” following a dramatic transformation of her room.

Zarach, a charity that helps families and people living in poverty, shared a picture of the youngster’s bare room without carpet or bedding earlier this month.

A GoFundMe campaign also revealed the devastating story of what the family was going through including that the mum, who fled a violent relationship, felt like a failure and she was "going to get one of those high-interest payday loans for a carpet."

The charity quickly stepped in to help the family and her bedroom is now “safe, warm and beautiful.”

Writing on Facebook, they said: "Three weeks ago I shared a photo of a little girl’s bedroom which had no carpet, bedding or curtains. Now, thanks to your generosity, her bedroom is safe, warm and BEAUTIFUL.

"We’ve put up curtains and laid a carpet, Mum has worked her homemaking magic to do the rest. Smiles from ear to ear from a lovely little girl as she loves her new room.

"This mum has made the tough decision to flee a violent relationship and start to rebuild her life somewhere new, from scratch. She could not be more thankful for the support she has received."

Sharing the heartbreaking funding campaign, they wrote: “This week of a five-year-old girls bedroom without a carpet. Mum also fled domestic violence 9 months ago and told us she's going to get one of those high-interest payday loans for a carpet as she feels like a failure of a mum and debt is a better option than facing a winter without a carpet for her daughter."

The charity raises money every week for mothers who have fled domestic abuse and have to start again.

They are currently helping a struggling mum who is undergoing cancer treatment and another who has an ongoing leaking roof at her property that has ruined her home but can't afford to get repaired.

The picture of the girl's bedroom was shared on Facebook and has been shared almost 200 times, as of October 26.

One commented: "Wow - what an amazing transformation! May God continue to bless that little girl and may that room always be filled with the presence of Jesus. Love what you do Zarach - God bless you all and all the generous supporters."

Another wrote: "Everytime I see these posts I'm just so angry that people could be left in this position in the first place. The work you are doing is wonderful."
