Distressing news swept the footballing world on Sunday night when it emerged the families of Angel Di Maria and Marquinhos had been effected by robberies.
During Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 clash with Nantes, Di Maria's home and the home of teammate Marquinos' parents was also targeted by robbers.
Both players' families were reportedly held hostage by robbers in what were described as 'very violent' robberies, prompting a police investigation.
Shockingly, news of the robbery at Di Maria's house actually broke during the game, a 2-1 defeat to Nantes for PSG, and former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was forced to take swift action.
During the game, PSG executive Leonardo Araújo was pictured taking a phonecall in the stands, and soon after, it was communicated to the team's bench what had unfolded.
Pochettino instantly ordered the substitution of Di Maria and emotional scenes followed.
The former Spurs boss was shown explaining what had happened to his fellow countryman as he led him down the tunnel towards the home dressing room at Parc des Princes.
And visibly upset, Di Maria rushed into the dressing room to get home to his family, while Marquinho played the full 90 minutes with reports claiming the club were unaware of the situation at his parents' house at the time.
Shockingly, it's not the first time Di Maria has been targeted with burglars also targeting his house during his time at Manchester United, in 2015.
PSG have said they will fully co-operate and support the Paris police in their investigations over the incident.
Marca have reported that the families were unharmed but that the contents of the upstairs safe were stolen and a specialised robbery unit was dispatched to the address.
