The shocking scene of destruction after cars were set on fire at a football club

Cars have been destroyed following a suspected arson attack at a community football club.

Fire crews were called to Garden Village AFC in Victoria Road, Gorseinon , following an emergency call in the early hours of this morning. Three vehicles were destroyed in the blaze and a fourth was damaged by flames.

Club chairman Bob Lloyd said things could have been even worse.

“We haven’t got a clue who is responsible," he said.

“It looks like one car was torched, and it has spread and damaged three others. There is also a considerable amount of damage to the tarmac, which will have to be renewed.

“We have enough going on without having to deal with this.

“If it had been closer to the clubhouse, it would have put that at risk”.

The section of car park is rented from the club by R Tec Garage, situated opposite the club, and it was three of its vehicles which were damaged by the blaze.

A spokesman for the garage said: “We do not know for certain, but it looks like the fire was started deliberately.

“Two of the cars belong to customers, and we have been in touch to let them know, and unsurprisingly they are quite upset.

“The third is one of our donor cars.”
