The shocking amount of bottles and cans Stereophonics fans left on Swansea's beautiful bay

Crowds flooded from Swansea Bay to Singleton Park for the stunning return of the Stereophonics to Swansea last night, but what some of them left behind wasn’t worthy of an encore.

Overflowing bins and heaps of discarded plastic bags full of rubbish were left on the beach as revellers made their way to the concert.

35,000 fans packed into Singleton Park on a hot and sunny afternoon.

Many of them had been enjoying a few drinks and a barbecue on the beach before making their way across the road to the park for the return of the Stereophonics to Swansea 20 years after their legendary Morfa gig .

People weren't allowed to take their bottles and cans into the arena, and Sybil Crouch, Labour Councillor for Castle ward, said that was why they left so much mess on the beach.

She said: “It’s disgraceful, people should take responsibility and take it home.

“People are outraged because so much stuff was left on the beach, and it couldn’t be taken into the gig,” she said.

Kathryn Sharp, who posted images of the mess online, raised concerns about the amount of plastic waste that was discarded.

“Vast amounts of plastic bags, plastic bottles and packaging was dumped on the beach and surrounding area and the strong breeze was blowing this single use plastic straight into the ocean.

“I frequently dog walk on Swansea Bay and pick up plastic along the way and am horrified at the amount of plastic being dumped over a couple of hours and no-one seemingly caring less.

“The council should at least put temporary recycling skips out for people to use,” she said.

Councillor Crouch confirmed that Swansea Council had been cleaning up the beach following the gig.
