The Shkodran Mustafi transfer decision that could impact Liverpool following Arsenal exit

Arsenal outcast Shkodran Mustafi could hold the key to solving Jurgen Klopp's injury crisis at Liverpool, though not directly.

The German World Cup winner is in negotiations with Arsenal regarding a early termination to his contract, in the same fashion to what has already been witnessed this month with Mesut Ozil and Sokratis.

With Arsenal's foreign quota of players in their Premier League squad back at the maximum after the loan signing of Mat Ryan, a departure is required to make space for fellow mid-season recruit Martin Odegaard.

Mustafi is the leading candidate to be sacrificed and a return to Germany may be on the cards for the former Valencia and Everton man.

FussballTransfers state Mustafi will leave the Emirates Stadium today and he could reunite with Sead Kolasinac at Schalke.

The Bundesliga side have already made an enquiry about the 28-year-old, who is soon to be a free agent, and it could spark more movement in the market.

Liverpool's hunt for defensive additions has seen them close in on two deadline day recruits, the first of which is Preston's Ben Davies.

Negotiations with Schalke regarding a second signing, which would see Ozan Kabak join on loan with an option to buy.

However, Schalke do not want to approve a departure without landing a replacement and time is of the essence, with the transfer window in Germany closing at 6pm.

While Liverpool would be able to sign Kabak after that deadline, it may all hinge on whether Mustafi triggers the domino effect.
