The shirt numbers available to Willian and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg if they join Tottenham

Jose Mourinho is going to have to look for bargains in the transfer market this summer as he looks to strengthen his Tottenham squad.

Set to have a reduced budget anyway if they miss out on Champions League football, the coronavirus pandemic means the vast majority of clubs will have limited funds.

Many sides will be looking to bring in players on loan for the 2020/21 campaign and free transfers will also be a popular move to save some cash.

Chelsea ace Willian will be free to leave Stamford Bridge very soon as his contract expires and he has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

Tottenham behind the scenes

Spurs are well stocked in attacking areas but the fact the experienced player will be available for nothing may prove too hard to turn down for his former boss.

Another player who has been tipped to sign for the Lilywhites is Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Danish international has one more year left to run on his deal at St Mary's and that means Spurs, and other clubs for that matter, will be able to sign him for a reduced fee as Ralph Hasenhuttl's men won't want to let him leave for nothing.

But what shirt numbers are available at Tottenham for Willian and Hojbjerg if they do indeed join the club ahead of next term?

football.london takes a look right here.

Number 2 - Perhaps not one for either Willian or Hojbjerg if they do sign for Spurs, the number remains vacant following Kieran Trippier's summer move to Atletico Madrid.

Number 9 - The famous number is available to new signings at Spurs but it may perhaps go the striker Mourinho will hopefully bring in.

Number 12 - Victor Wanyama was the previous owner of the shirt before his January switch to Montreal Impact.

Number 14 - Vacant since Georges-Kevin Nkoudou's summer exit and one of the shirt numbers that may be appealing to a summer arrival.

Number 25 - Both Willian and Hojbjerg have worn shirt numbers in the 20s in the Premier League and the number 25 could be for one of them at Spurs.

Number 26 - The shirt number hasn't been officially retired by the club but the fact nobody has taken it on since Ledley King's exit in 2012 suggests it will not be in use once again.

The numbers which could become available...

Number 3 - Danny Rose will be out of contract in 2021 and the fact he has fallen out of favour with Mourinho means there's a very good chance it will be available.

Number 5 - The shirt could be up for grabs for the first time since 2012 with Jan Vertonghen's deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Number 16 - Another player with an uncertain future in N17 is Kyle Walker-Peters. His number could be attractive to new signings given a lot of the favoured numbers are already taken.

Number 21 - Juan Foyth could try and force a move in the summer after not playing under Mourinho since the end of December. Another which a new signing could look to take on.

Other available numbers beyond 30 include 31, 32, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 and 40.
