Eden Hazard and the squad numbers available after completing switch from Chelsea to Real Madrid

It was heartbreaking to see it but Eden Hazard is officially a Real Madrid player.

The former Chelsea man was welcomed to the Spanish capital by over 50,000 fans on Thursday night as the Belgian posed for photos after completing his £88million move.

However you may have noticed the lack of squad number on the back of his Madrid jersey.

Hazard wore the number 10 during his last few seasons at Stamford Bridge, but that number is already taken by World Cup finalist Luka Modric and Hazard's attempts at regaining that particular number has already been thwarted by his new teammate.

"I have been able to talk to Modric through Kovacic," he said. "I was joking when I asked him to lend me the number 10.

"He said no so I’ll have to find another number. But right now number not important for me, just to play with this badge."

With the number 10 out of the question, it seems that the Belgian has a further two options for his new squad number - either seven or 11, both however are currently occupied.

The seven shirt currently belongs to Mariano Diaz, who returned from a loan spell at Lyon last summer, but has had speculation surrounding his future at Real Madrid as he struggled to make an impact last season.

While the number 11 is occupied by former Spurs man Gareth Bale and there is no secrets surrounding his struggles in the Spanish capital, the Wales international has received criticism despite winning four Champions League titles with the club. The Welshman has been heavily linked with a summer return to the Premier League.

A shirt hanging in the official club shop suggests that Hazard will be taking Mariano's number seven for the season, meaning that he will have some pretty big shoes to fill, with one of the former occupants of the shirt being Christiano Ronaldo.
