The shirt number new signing Dani Ceballos will wear at Arsenal this season

Dani Ceballos has been confirmed as an Arsenal player for the 2019/20 season.

The Spanish midfielder had been linked with a move to the Emirates for some time, although arch rivals Tottenham were also reported to be interested.

However, it is the Gunners who have completed a move for the highly-rated 22-year-old, whom Real Madrid were reluctant to allow to leave on a permanent basis.

Ceballos starred for Spain's U21s as they won the European Championships this summer and arrives in England with a burgeoning reputation.

Speaking to the club's official wesbite upon arriving, he said: "I’ve not spoken to my team-mates yet so we’re not sure of what the objective is, but obviously I’m coming here to give everything I have.

"Nobody will be able to question that because from the very first day I pull this jersey on I’ll give everything I’ve got. We’ll try to achieve the club’s objectives."

Arsenal lost an important member of the midfield this summer when Welshman Aaron Ramsey left the club on a free transfer, joining Juventus at the end of his contract.

And while Ceballos may not have the same qualities, he is a replacement for Ramsey in one respect - his shirt.

Ceballos has been handed Ramsey's old number 8 shirt at the Emirates for the upcoming season.

Head coach Unia Emery described Ceballos as "a talented player with big technical ability, creativity and precision".
