The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep is coming for Halloween and looks absolutely terrifying

It's been nearly 40 years since we first took a trip to the innocent-looking but massively horrific Overlook Hotel as The Shining terrified audiences across the world.

Well now the smash hit Stephen King film is finally getting a sequel and, just like the original, it's already on the verge of giving us nightmares from its trailer alone!

Doctor Sleep is getting released to UK cinemas on Halloween itself - Thursday, October 31 - and as you can see from its trailer above it won't be for the faint hearted!

The film is based on the King novel of the same name, which was released in 2013 and focuses on Danny Torrance, the son of Jack Nicholson's legendary character Jack Torrance, the manic caretaker of the hotel who ended up trying to kill his own family.

Ewan McGregor takes on the role of Danny who is still very much struggling with his childhood trauma and his psychic abilities, which prompt him to get horrifying premonitions.

Danny has surprisingly managed to find some normality after everything that happened at The Overlook all those years ago, but that is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the 'shine.'

Instinctively recognising that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.

Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose, played by Rebecca Ferguson, most famous for taking on the role of Jenny Lind in The Greatest Showman.

Abra's innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before, facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.
